Windows Phone Google Sync Error 8007000E

Recently, many Windows Phone users have been suffering from a sudden Google synchronization error 8007000E, telling something about not having enough memory to synchronize. I got the problem at my Lumia 925 and the error is documented both on other Windows Phone 7.5, 8, and 8.1 smart phones.

Problem Source

The problem lays at Google contacts synchronization; probably there is an issue with synchronization of contact pictures. The probable reason is incorrect implementation of the synchronization protocol at the default Google account on Windows Phone.

Problem Resolution

This method is now working only for existing google sync connections. If this does not work for you, try to export the contacts from your google account as .csv and import it to Microsoft Live Contacts (you will loose all the photos.. and some extra information but works for numbers and names).

I do not guarantee this works for you and I do not guarantee this will not cause any problems. Use on your own risk. This solution is based on this discussion and some further research.

To resolve the problem, you need to create a manual google sync account for Google synchronization. Actually, this will only work till Google definitely discontinues this service, what has been planned to the end of 2013. Hopefully, there will be an upgrade for Windows Phone that will solve the issue till that time. (Update: the service has been prolonged, again. Seems the service will remain in operation for existing connections.) If not, I have a backup solution ready that I will publish in the following days (stay tuned ;) )
Follow the below steps.
  1. Make sure your smart phone is connected to Internet
  2. Navigate to Settings -> email+accounts
  3. Remove the existing Google account (if present)
  4. Tap "add an account"
  5. Tap "advanced setup"
  6. Enter your gmail e-mail address
  7. Enter your gmail password. If you are using Application-specific passwords with your Google account, generate and enter a new Application-specific password
  8. Tap the "next" button
  9. Select "Exchange ActiveSync"
  10. Leave Domain empty
  11. Enter Server "m.google.com"
  12. Tap the "sign in" button (optionally set some further options, if needed)
  13. Wait till the synchronization is finished (this could take up to half an hour if you have many contacts, e-mails, etc.)
  14. All done :)
I spent a whole day looking for the solution; hopefully this quick guide will help you to spend your day in a better way. If so, consider a donation. And have a nice day :)

nice to hear the solution worked.
I am sorry for the issue with one contact only; do you think it worked when synchronizing before? I have not examined this.

    1. Giantheman, srikanth, nice to hear this helped. Still this is more or less only a workaround, I am trying to find out a solution that will work also after Google stopping this way of synchronization (what is planned to the end of the year). Once I find something, I will for sure keep you updated.

    1. Vrilo, thanks for the comment. Yes, you are probably right; but the issue is I have no idea which one it was and have like 500 contact pictures in my list. I also tried to download them, but they all downloaded as 5 kb jpgs, so did not help :(

  12. This method no longer works as of December 31st, 2014. Google, pricks as they are, have shut this down. So adding the google account via the phones regular method doesn't work. The issue is with contacts with pictures. Any resolve yet?

  16. I got the following error message:
“It looks like you may be using a Google Apps account that is not set up to sync with mobile devices. In your web browser on your PC, go to Mobile settings for your Google Apps account, enable Google Sync under Service settings, and then try to sync again.”
Sadly I do not have a Google Apps account!

  17. Problém je ve skutečnosti ve velikosti profilových fotografií. Google dovoluje větší, než Microsoft. Stačí foty odstranit, nebo zmenšit a synchronizace jde přes normální Google účet.
The problem is in fact the size of profile pictures. Google allows larger than Microsoft. Just delete the photos or decrease a synchronization goes through the normal Google account.
